सूर्य-बुध इकट्ठे

सूरज बुध ( मुलाज़मत मुत्त्लका कलम सरकार का धन – सरसब्ज़ पहाड़ , लाल फटकड़ी, शीशा सफेदा.)

दोनो ग्रह 39 साला उमर तक मुश्तर्का होंगे.इस मिलावट में अगर सूरज का असर दो हिस्से तो बुध का असर एक जुज्व होगा गो दोनो का और उत्तम फल होगा मगर सूरज का उत्तम प्रबल होगा दोनो मुश्तर्का में सूरज कभी नीच फल का न होगा. बुध बेशक मारा जावे और मंदा असर देवे यानि जिन घरों मे सूरज नीच या मंदा होगा वहां बुध का असर मंदा होगा और जहा बुध खुद मंदा हो वहाँ सूरज को बेशक धब्बा लगे मगर बुध की आसियाँ सूरज को मदद देंगी.

जन्म वक्त और जन्म दिन का ग्रह

आज लाल किताब से

"जन्म वक्त का ग्रह जब अपने जन्म दिन के ग्रह के पक्के घर में आ जावे तो जन्म दिन का ग्रह राशी फल का होगा चाहे वह वहाँ ग्रह फल का ही हो. यानि अगर जन्म वक्त का ग्रह उस घर में उस घर की चीजों पर बुरा असर करे तो जन्म दिन के ग्रह का उपाय कर के जन्म वक्त के ग्रह के बुरे असर को दूर किया जा सकता है."

"मददगार उपाय (लाल किताब 1952 सफा 151)

  1. रुह बुत के झगड़े की तरह ग्रह को रूह और राशी को बुत मानें , तो ग्रह फल के उपाय की इस इलम में गुँजाइश नहीं मानी गई,राशी या ग्रह या राशी/ग्रह फल के शक का इलाज और ग्रहों से धोके के ग्रह के धक्के से बच कर चलना इँसानी ताकत में माना गया है.बुध के ग्रह का हीरा (बहुत कीमती पत्थर) सब को काटता और मारता है मगर वह खुद उसी बुध की दूसरी निहायत नरम चीज कलई (टाँके लगाने वाली धात) उस हीरे में सूराख डाल देती है. इसी तरह ही पापी ग्रह सब ग्रहों पर अपना धक्का लगाते हैं, मगर उन को (पापी ग्रहों को) मारने के लिये खुद अपना ही पाप (लफज पाप से मुराद राहु-केतु हैं, पापी से मुराद सनिचर, राहु केतु तीनों ही हैं,यानि राहु के मँदे असर को केतु का उपाय दरुस्त कर देगा और केतु के मँदे असर को राहू का उपाय नेक कर देगा) महाँबली होगा. और पाप की बेड़ी भर कर डूबेगी.मुख्तसर तौर पर पापी ग्रहों का उपाय या उन ग्रहों की मुत्तलका चीजों की पालना करनी होगी. या उन की मुत्तलका चीजों से उन की आशीर्वाद या मुआफी ले लेना कारामद होगा. मसलन शुकर की मुतलका चीज गाय और आम इंसानी खुराक या सब अनाज मिले मिलाये मुकरर हैं. शुकर की मदद् के लिये गाय को अपनी खुराक का हिस्सा देवें. काग रेखा धन दौलत की हानि -सनिचर की मँदी निशानी की बकुवत कौवे को रोटी का हिस्सा देवें या औलाद के लिये दुनिया के दर्वेश कुत्ते को अपनी खुराक का टुकड़ा बख्शें. "

पितृ ऋण (सफा 85,लाल किताब 1942) :–

पितृ ऋण से मुराद खुफिया असर होता है और धोखे के ग्रह या उसके धक्के से जाहिर हो जाएगा। गुनाह तो कोई करे मगर सजा उसकी कोई और भुगते । मगर भुगतेगा इस गुनाह करने वाले का असल करीबी ताल्लुकदार। खाना नं0 9 के ग्रहों से मुराद होती है, जब इस घर में या इस घर के मालिक ग्रह यानि बृहस्पति के किसी दूसरे घर में कोई और ग्रह ( एक या एक से ज्यादा ) जो या तो वाहम दुश्मनी पर हों, या वो दोनों या हर एक बृहस्पति की ताकत को खराब करते या बृहस्पति के असर में जहर मिलाते हों तो पितृ ऋण होगा । राहू की बृहस्पति के चुप करवाने वाला गिना है, वो अगर बृहस्पति को मुंह बन्द करके खुद मन्दी हालत का असर बृहस्पति के ताल्लुक से ( यानि या तो वह बृहस्पति के घरों में हो या बृहस्पति के पक्के घर मे ) देवें तो पितृ ऋण को बोझ होगा । इसी तरह ही और ग्रह भी चन्द्र की खराबी में माता तरफ के मातृ ऋण हो सकते हैं । खुलास्तन जिस ग्रह को जड़ ( इसकी अपनी राशि ) में इसका दुश्मन ग्रह जब उसका फल रद्दी कर रहा हो और खुद भी वह ग्रह रद्दी मन्दा हो रहा हो तो पितृ ऋण होगा ।

पितृ ऋण या कुण्डली वाले के बुजुर्गों का पाप:
बाप के विलावजह कुत्ते को गोली वगैरह से मार देने के पाप में इस का लड़का दुख भोगने का सबब होगा। यानि कुण्डली वाले पर इसके बाप के पाप का बोझ भी हो सकता है । जिस वक्त तक केतू, बृहस्पति का उपाय न करें पितृ ऋण का बोझा लडके की 16 से 24 साल उम्र तक दूर न होगा । इसी तरह ही सब ग्रहों का हाल हो सकता है। ख्वाह ऐसे शख्स के ( कुण्डली वाले के ) अपने ग्रह लाख राज योग ही क्यों न हों, बुरा असर दो ग्रहों का होगा और उपाय का भी दो ग्रहों का करना होगा । फर्जन कुण्डली वाले के बाप ने कुत्ते मारे तो कुण्डली वाले पर बृहस्पति व केतू का पितृ ऋण हुआ जो कुण्डली वाले पर बालिग होने की ( कुण्डली) उम्र से 16 ता 24 साल रह सकता है । कुण्डली वाले के रिश्ते के ताल्लुक और पाप की किस्म से ऋण का नाम मुकरर होगा ।

Astrology Dictionary Alphabets-A

A

A. M. – Ante meridiem; before noon, morning.

A.D. – Annu Domini, in the year of Lord; English or civil calendar year.

Aadal Yoga – A yoga in Electional astrology which is formed when Moon's nakshatra is 2nd, 7th, 9th, 14th, 16th, 21st, 23rd, 28th, from Sun's nakshatra (including Abhijit nakshatra). It is bad for military activities, agricultural and stone works, but not bad for marriage & other samskaras.

Aadhaar – It is nadi of simhasan chakra and contains Aswini, Aslesha, Magha, Jyeshta, Moola, Revati nakshatras.

Aadhi Drishti – All planets except Jupiter cast 50% aspect on 5th and 9th signs from their position which is Asdhi Drishti.

Aadi Nadi Nakshatras – Aswini, Aridra, Punarvasu, Uttaraphalguni, Hasta, Jystha, Moola, Shatabhisha, Poorvabhadra.

Aaghaana Nakshatra19th nakshatra from janama nakshatra.

Aagneya – South – east direction.

Aasan – It is nadi of simhasan chakra and contains Bharni, Pushya, Poorvaphalguni, Anuradha, Poorvashadha, Uttarabhadra nakshatras.

Abda - Year

Abdabala – Bala of 15 shashtiamsas assigned to the planet who is the lord of the year of the birth.

Abdapati – Lord of the year.

Abdapati – Lord of the year. This lord is the lord of the first week day with which the year commences.

Abdaphala – Yearly prognostication.

Aberration – The apparent angular displacement of observed position of celestial object from its geometric position, caused by the velocity of light in combination with the motions of the observer and of the observed object.

Abhijit Kala – Same as Abhijit muhurta.

Abhijit Muhurta – An auspicious
moment in Electional astrology. Add Sunrise time in Sun set time and half it. 24 minutes on either side of this point is abhijit muhurta.

Abhijit Muhurta – Divide dinmaan in 15 parts. 8th muhurta is good and can be safely used if nothing else is possible. Add Sun rise time in Sun set time and half it. 24 minutes on either side is abhijit muhurta. Very auspicious muhurta in electional astrology.

Abhijit Nakshatra – It is located between 276° 40` and 280° 54` 13`` of the Zodiacal arc, deity is Brahma. Important in muhurta determination.

Abhijit Rasi – 4th sign as counted from Sun's position.

Abhimini – Dignified, a planet in strength and moving towards its exaltation sign.

Abhisheka – 27th constellation as counted from the birth constellation.

Abhisheka – 27th star from Janmaraksha (Janama tara).

Abhisheka – Bath.

Abhisheka Nakshatra –
28th nakshatra from janama nakshatra.

Abhukta Moola – Last four ghatis of Jyeshtha and first four ghatis of Moola nakshatra. Inauspicious for birth.

Abja Yoga – All planets posited in angles. Auspicious yoga.

Abja Yoga – Same as Ambuja yoga.

Above The Horizon – 7th to 10th house.

Above The Horizon – Houses 7th to 12th where Sun is posited in day birth charts.

Abscission – Frustration when a planet simultaneously aspects two other planets, but one aspect culminates first, thus frustrating the influence of other aspect.

Abu-Maaschor – Also refered to as Albumazar, an Arab astronomer who lived between 805 and 885 A.D. His chief work was De Magnis Conjunctionibus in which he asserts that the world was created when the seven planets were in conjunction in the first degree of Aries, and that it willo comje to an end when a similar conjunction forms in the last degree of Pisces. He also wrote Introductorium in Astronomium and Flores Astrologic.

Acharya – Learned, venerable spiritual teacher who invests the sacred thread.

Acharya – Priest.

Achcha – Planet Venus.

Achchadana – Special aspects of Jupiter and Venus, Jupiter has 3rd and 11th and Venus has 5th aspect.

Achyuta – Lord Vishnu.

Adana Lagna – Lagna at the moment of impregnation, also known as nisheka lagna.

Adhama – malefic.

Adhama Yoga – an inauspicious combination when Moon is in an angle to the Sun.

Adhana – 19th star from Janmaraksha (Janama tara).

Adhana – Conception, 8th constellation from birth constellation.

Adhana Lagna –
Conception or pre-natal ascendant.

Adhana Lagna – It is the sign rising at the time of conception.

Adhi Mitra – Very close friend.

Adhi mitravarga – A planet in fast friend's varga.

Adhi satruvarga – A planet in extreme enemy's varga.

Adhi Yoga – If benefics are situated in 6th, 7th and 8th signs when counted from the Ascendant, it is Laganadhi and when counted from the Moon, it is Chandaradhi. The native shall be polite and trustworthy, shall have an enjoyable and happy life surrounded by luxuries and affluence, healthy and long-lived.

Adhik Tithi – The start of month or day is taken from Sun rise. Because of Moon's speed, two tithis may fall between two successive sunrises. This gives rise to formation of adhik and tithi.

Adhikamaas – Intercalary month occurs when a complete lunar month is contained within the period of a solar month i. e. between two successive solar sankratis.
The adhikmaas has no solar sankrati at all, consequently, that year comes to have 13 lunar months. When in a solar year, the number of Amavasyas becomes greater than the number of Sankrantis, the additional month is the adhik maas.

Adhishatru – Bitter enemy.

Adhivarsha – Leap year.

Adi – Beginning, original cause, represents planet Sun, sign Aries and Aswini nakshatra.

Adi – First.

Adi – Tamil name for the lunar month of Asadha.

Adi Bhuta – The first born, Brahma, the primeval element.

Adicharakhanda – Ascensional difference when Sun's Sayana longitudes are between 0° to 90°.

Aditi – Lord of 7th nakshatra Punarvasu, name of 10th nocturnal muhurta.

Aditya – the Sun.

Adolescent Avastha – A state of a planet when at 6° to 12° in an odd sign or 18° to 24° in an even sign. It is considered to be half as effective.

Adya – First house.

Adyam – Another name of Aries.

Afflicted – Adversely influenced.

Affliction – Adverse planetary effect, occurs if a planet is in trik bhava or owns a trik or is associated with Saturn, Mars or Rahu, or is combust.

Afliction – Adverse aspects between planets or between a planet and a cusp (house), planets getting debilitated or conjoined with evils.

Age of Aquarius – Also known as Kumbha yuga, it is an astrological age when due to precession of equinoxes, Sun, at the time of spring equinox, rises in Aquarius.

Aggregate of Desirable Aspects – Sum total of the beneficence bearing on a planet or a house.

Aggressive Nakshatras – Poorvaphalguni, Poorvashadha, Poorvabhadra, Bharni. Importance in election astrology, suitable for killing, cheating, theft, poisoning, purchase sale and use of arms, surgical operations, works involving use of fire etc.

Aghan Nakshatra – 19th nakshatra from janama nakshatra.

Agni – Lord of 3rd nakshatra Krittika, name of 7th nocturnal muhurta.

Agni Bhu – Born out of fire, kartikeya.

Agni Hotra –
Offering Homa, oblations to sacred fire.

Agni Hotri – The priest who performs agni hotra.

Agni Panchaka – Add three to Sun's degrees and divide by nine. If we get the remainder 5, it is agni panchaka. It occurs when Sun is in 2nd, 11th, 20th, 29th degree in any sign. It indicates the moment of muhurta in electional astrology which should be avoided to start any auspicious work.
It is to be avoided for housing activities, for laying foundation stone or entry in a new house etc. See Panchaka also.

Agni Vesha – A sage, a son of Agni and an ancient writer on medicine.

Agnihotra – Worship of fire, agnyadhaan.

Agnyadhaan – Agnihotra, worship of fire.

Agrahayan – A luner or a solar month.

Agrahayana – Another name for the lunar month of Margashirsha.

Agu – planet Rahu

Ahargana – Number of Saavan days from the beginning of creation to the Ishta Kaala.

Aharganas – Sum of the days from January 0 to the date of birth.

Ahas –
Duration of day.

Ahas – Period from sun-rise to sun-set.

Ahi – A serpent, a thief, the shadowy planet Rahu, lord of 2nd diurnal muhurta.

Ahibhudhya – Lord of 27th nakshatra Uttarabhadra.

Ahirbudhya – Lord of 3rd nocturnal muhurta.

Ahoratra – Day and night, that is from one sun-rise to the next sun-rise.

Airavata Yoga – In Ashatakavarga system of prediction, when the first part (khanda), Pisces to Gemini, has the highest number of benefic bindus, and the third part, Scorpio to Aquarius, has the least.

Aksha-ved-amsa

A sign is divided into 45 equal parts 40` arc each, lordship of 45 parts as per shodasamsa at no.9 above.

Akshavedamsa – (40`) Lordship commences from sign 1, 5, 9 from itself if planet is in moveable, fixed or dual sign respectively.

Akula Yoga –
A yoga in electional astrology formed by combination of weekday-nakshatra-tithi. War or a dispute or a civil suit started under this combination gives victory to the native. The combinations are Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday –Swati, Aslesha, Bharani, Hasta, Dhanishta, Revati, Anuradha, Rohini, Punarvasu, Uttarabhadra, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarashadha.

Albategnius – Albategnius, Mohammed bin Djabir was an Arab prince, a keen mathematician and as astronomer who lived between 850 and 929 A.D. He made the first contribution to the theory of astrological house-division and corrected some of Ptolemy's results and compiled new tables of the Sun and Moon. He also studied the movement of the Sun's apogee, which is now refered to as aphelion, and calculated the value of precession as 55``. He also introduced the use of sines in trigonometrical calculations and also did some work on tangents.

Albohazen Haly – He was an Arabian philosopher and astrologer whose work `Praeclarissimus liber in Judiciis astrorum` - a treatise on the fixed stars – brought about the clearly defined division between Judicial and Narural Astrology. He also propounded a method of house-division, based on that of Albategnius, whereby the house-cusps should be separated from each other by two temporal hours taken in the run of the ascendants.

Alcabitius – An arabian astronomer who was merely an exponent of the system of Albategnius: "The original idea was that the right aqscension of the meridian and ascendant should be first found, and the distance between thes two points divided into three equal parts. Then the right ascension of the ascendant and that of the lower meridian should also be ascertained and the distance between these two divided into three equal parts. The right ascension so obtained should be converted into longitude and the resultant longitudes would be the cusps of the houses.

Almagest – A geometrical treatise by Ptolemy, wherein he showed how to form a table of chords, divide the circle into 360 equal parts (degrees) and then, each part into further 60 parts (minutes) and further, each of these 60 parts into 60 parts (seconds).

Almanac – The Panchanga.

Almuten – Most influential or well placed planet in a horoscope, Sadhaka Graha.

Alpabali – When a planet (or a house) is weak or has very little strength.

Alpayu – Short life, life span upto 33 years.

Alpayu – Short span of life, extends up to 32 years of age.

Alpheta – A planet that bestows longevity.

Alpheta – Giver of life.

Alt-Azimuth System – Atronomy is founded not on one system of co-ordinates but three. There are the Altitude and Azimuth, the Tight Ascension and Declination and the Latitude systems of co-ordinates. These pairs of co-ordiantes are iach co-ordinated with a point, common to all three systems, namely the cintre of the Earth, which nmot onmly endows them with the name Geocentric but proves the essentially triadic nature of each separate system. In all three cases, three points are co-ordinated, not merely two.     All three systems are of the same kind, called polar co-ordinates, defining the surface of the celestial sphere-a convenient mathematical fiction – by means of a circle and two points, called the poles which are so situated that other circles described at right angles to the defining circle or equator all pass through the poles. In the Alt-Azimuth system the circle is the Horizon and the poles are the Zenith and Nadir.

Altitude – It is distance of a heavenly body from the hosizon measured on the vertical drawn through the body from zenith of the observer to the horizental circle.

Amaant – It is the system when lunar month is considered to begin at the end of an Amavasya Tithi.

Amala – An auspicious period when Moon transit 8th constellation from birth star.

Amala Yoga – If the 10th from the Ascendant or the Moon is occupied by a benefic. The native shall have a spotless character, lead a prosperous life and have a lasting fame.

Amar Yoga – i. All Planet in angles; ii. Sun in Aries or Leo in angle or trine and Moon in sign Cancer or Taurus and Jupiter and Venus in 8th. It nullifies all evils.

Amarak Yoga – Mutual exchange of 7th and 9th lords and both strong.

Amaranantha Dhana Yoga – If a number of planets occupy the 2nd house and the wealth giving ones are strong or occupy own or exaltation signs. The native shall enjoy wealth through out life.

Amasa Dasa – It corresponds to Amasaya of a planet. Sequence of Dasas commences from the strongest amongst lagna, Sun and Moon and then the dasa order of the planets in kendras, panaphara and apoklimus houses follows and the eight dasas (that of lagna and of 7
planets from Sun to Saturn) run in natural order starting from lagna.

Amatya KarakaA term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. It is the planet after Atmakaraka planet, which devoid of the signs, gets the next greatest number of degress. It is assumed that Mercury is natural Amatyakaraka.

Amatya Karaka –
A term in Jaimini Astrology. It is the planet who gets the next greatest number of degrees to Atma karaka.

Amatyakaraka – A planet with the second highest longitude in a natal chart, irrespective of the sign.

Amavasya – New Moon day,
30th tithi, difference in longitude of Moon and Sun is 348° to 360° in dark half, Poorna tithi, nature is 'Saumya prada', ruler is Pitra (ancestors).

Ambient – An object, being or any temporal component under astrological analysis.

Ambu – 4th house.

Ambuja Yoga – An auspicious yoga when all planets are posited in angle.

Amli San – A Luni-solar year commenced from Bhadra Shukla 12th tithi of 592 A.D.

Amrit Siddha Yoga – An auspicious yoga in electional astrology formed by the combinations of week day – nakshatra, viz. Sunday-Hasta; Monday-Mrigashira; Tuesday – Aswini; Wednesday – Anuradha; Thursday – Pushya; Friday – Revati; Saturday – Rohini.

Amrita – Name of 17th, 38th and 57th Shashtiamsas in an odd sign and of 44th, 23rd and 4th in even.

Amrita Yoga –
An auspicious yoga in Electional astrology formed by nakshatra-day combination, viz. Uttarashadha-Sunday; Satabhisha-Monday; Aswini-Tuesday; Mrigashira- Wednesday; Aslesha-Thursday; Hasta-Friday; Anuradha-Saturday.

Amritaplaavini – Name of 47th
Naadiamsa of movable, of 104th of fixed and of 122nd of dual sign.

Amsa – Part degree, planetary longitude.

Amsa Bala – A term used in Jaimini astrology, within a zodiacal sign, strength of a planet as per its longitude. Greater the longitude greater the strength.

This is the strength of a planet which depends upon the vargabala of the planet. 60, 45, 30, 22.5o, 15, 7.50 and 3.75 Shashtiamsas of bala is assigned to a planet if it is in exaltation, in mooltrikona, in own sign, in a friend's sign, in a neutral sign, in enemy's sign and in debilitation respectively. It is also known as Mooltrikona Bala.

Amsa Dasa – It corresponds to Amsayu of a planet. The sequence of dasa commences from the strongest amongst the lagna, Sun and Moon and then the dasa order of the planets is from the planets in kendras followed by those in Panaphara and Apoklima houses. There are 8 dasas that of the lagna and the 7 planets Sun to Saturn only.

Amsavatara Yoga – When the ascendant is a movable sign and Venus, Jupiter and exalted Saturn should all be in the angles. The native shall have unsullied name and fame, versatile and learned, fond of sex pleasures but with passion under control, an authority in philosophy and very influencial.

Ardhprahara – An Upgraha, auxiliary of planet Mercury, to arrive at its longitude; divide dinmaan (or ratrimaan as the case may be) into eight equal parts. The longitude of the ascendant at the expiry of 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 7th, 6th and 5th part of day birth and at the expiry of 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st part for the night birth is longitude of Ardhprahara, sign Gemini is owned by it, also known as Ardhyam.

Ardhprahara/Ardhayama – Upgraha of Mercury, if dinmaan is divided in 30 parts, ardhprahara rises after 14 ghatis on Sunday, 10 ghatis on Monday, 6 on Tuesday, 2 on Wednesday, 26 on Thursday, 22 on Friday and 18 ghatis on Saturday. During night time it rises after 26, 22, 18, 14, 10, 6 and 2 ghatis respectively on these days.

Argala – A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. Planets and rasis aspect other planets and signs according to their dispositions. These aspect influences are affected for good or bad by the presence, from an aspecting lord or sign, of planets in certain places. These affecting or influencing agencies are called Argalas. If planets are in both 2nd and 12th houses or in both 3rd and 11th houses or in both 4th and 10th houses or in both 5th and 9th houses they cause argala. Natural benefics in these places act as benefic argalas and malefics cause malefic argalas. Good results are experienced in the dashas of rasis in which benefic argala is caused and bad results are experienced in the dashas of rasis in which malefic argala is caused.

Arishtabhanga – Mitigation of arista yogas. If Mercury, Jupiter or Venus is in angle or a strong Jupiter is in lagna or lagnesh is strongly placed in an angle.

Arishya Signs – Signs ahead of the sign where Sayana Sun is posited.

Arudha Lagna – A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. The lagna pada is known as Arudha or Aroodha pada. Count as many signs from lagnesh as lagnesh is away from lagna. This is arudha or pada lagna.

Arudha of Bhavas

A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. Arudha of all houses are calculated by counting as many signs from the house lord as he is away from the house concerned. E.g. to find arudha of 2nd house, see how far away 2nd lord is from 2nd house. Arudha of 2nd house is as many houses away from lord of 2nd as the lord of 2nd is away from 2nd house. Briefly, count from the bhava to the sign where its lord is posited and then count from this lord further to get bhava pada. In case of

Aquarius and Scorpio signs, both have two lords, so the stronger of the two planets is to be considered to reckon bhava arudha. This strength is to be seen as is determined while calculating chara dasa.

Arudha of Planets – A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy.

In the same way as for bhava padas, as far away from a planet is his own sign, the house so far therefrom is to be taken as pada or arudha of the planet concerned. If a planet owns two signs, or if a sign is owned by 2 planets (Scorpio & Aquarius), then the pada should be calculated on the basis of the stronger sign & stronger planet.

Aruna – Son of sage kashyapa and kadru.

Aryabhata

Aryama or Aryaman – Lord of 14th diurnal muhurta, lord of 12th nakshatra Uttaraphalguni, also another name of lord Sun.

    As a result the number of leap years in 400 years was reduced from 100 to 97 and the year length of the calendar thus became 365.2425, the error being only one day in 3300 years. In Great Britain, it was officially introduced in 1752 when the error accumulated to 11 days and in that year 3rd September of Julian Calendar, Thursday was designated as the 14th September of Gregorian Calendar, Thursday. At the same time in Great Britain the beginning of the year was changed from march 25 to January 1, commencing with the year 1752. In some countries the Gregorian calendar was not adopted until the present century.

    As such the century years 1600, 2000, 2400 which are divisible by 400 are leap years whereas the century years 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100 although divisible by 4, are not leap years.

Asadha

Asaru – As per the Chaldean faith, Asaru was the resident god of the planet Jupiter, and this god was said to possess the power of restoring happiness to man.

Asatyavadi Yoga – If the lord of the 2nd occupies the house of Saturn or Mars and if malefics join angles and trines. The native shall be a liar.

Ascendant – The part (degree of the zodiac) that rises in the Eastern horizon at the time of birth of a child or commencement of an event. Also called Lagna.

Ascendant – The point of intersection of the ecliptic at the given time with the horizon of the place for that moment.

Ascendant Point – Degree of ascendant.

Ascendants, Table of – A table giving longitudes of different signs rising at the ascendant corresponding to each sidereal time.

Ascending – A term denoting any planet which is between the 4th and the 10th houses, more especially when rising above the eastern Horizon.

Ascending node – It is the crossing point of the path of Moon or any planet when it crosses the ecliptic while going from South to North.

Ascending Node of Moon – Rahu.

Ascension - The zodiac takes 24 hours to ascend on the eastern horizon, meaning thereby that on an average it takes 2 hours for one sign to ascend. This is true at the earth's equator. As we move towards North or South of equator, the duration of ascension of some signs takes more than 2 hours while others take lesser time. Signs taking more than 2 hours to rise completely are known as Long ascension signs and those taking less than 2 hours are short ascension signs and the rest are of medium ascension. This is due to the obliquity of earth and the latitude of the place. Different signs have different ascensions at different places, which gets reversed in southern- hemisphere.

Ascensional difference –
These are the differences found in the duration of ascension of the twelve signs for places situated at different latitudes. It is 0 for all the places situated on the equator. It is same in respect of the same sign, for places situated in the same latitude.

Ascensions – Long and short. Though each sign is 30°, yet this term is used to show that some signs take long duration to rise in the East and some signs a shorter period.

Asha saham - A concept exclusive to Tajik and to check the possibility of fulfillment of hopes and anticipations during a particular year. For the day-time Varsha-pravesh, formula is: Saturn's longitude – Venus's longitude + Ascendant's longitude. For night time varsha-pravesh formula is : Venus's longitude – Saturn's longitude + Ascendant. Further amendment shall be that if while tracing from planet B to planet A, as the houses are counted in that particular chart, we do not cross over the cusp of the Ascendant, 30° must be added to the final result, which is then posted like any other planet and analysed according to its placement, conjoinment and aspects with other planets etc.

Ashtakavarga – Eight-sectioned system of analysis: Just as the effects of planets in different houses are reckoned from the ascendant, so also the effects are reckoned from the positions of all the planets (excluding Rahu and Ketu) considering each planet's position as an ascendant. Thus effects from seven planets and the ascendant are studied together to obtain a total picture.

Ashtam – Eighth position, either from a sign or a planet. An inauspicious position.

Ashtama Sani – It is the period of Saturn's sojourn through the 8th house from the house in which Moon is posited in the natal chart. This period is said to be evil.

Ashtami – 8th tithi, difference in longitude of Moon and Sun is 84° to 96° in bright half and 264° to 276°, Jaya tithi, nature is 'Dwandwa prada', ruler is Shiva.

Ashtamsa – (3°.45') shows longevity. Lordship of 8 parts is fixed as for shodasama as at No.9 above.

Aspada – 10th house.

Aspect – When a planet (or a Rashi in Gemini astrology) is deemed to aspect another planet or a house, it means that it transmits or influences the aspected planet or house by its inherent quality and properties. In Parashari system of astrology all planets have 7th aspect, that is, they aspect the 7th house as counted from their original position.
